Summer in Sydney
We have had an eventful last month of working and having fun while living in Manly. With both of our birthdays and our two year anniversary to celebrate, we have managed to pack a lot into our last few weeks in Sydney.
For Holland's Birthday we went to 'Home' (the reputed 'best' nightclub in Sydney) with our Irish mates and stayed up all night dancing to live bands with a little help from our friends Ms Vodka and Mr Red Bull.
For Becky's Birthday weekend we had a lazy day on Palm Beach (AKA Summer Bay where they film Home and Away) on the Saturday and explored Sydney's pretty botanical gardens on the Sunday.
For our anniversary (also Australia Day), we spent a long weekend camping in the tranquil Blue Mountains (2 hours from Sydney) with our English friends Ben and Bex. We stayed in a camp site next to the Katoomba Falls which was very peaceful and very cold at night - both of which a rare thing in Manly where we live. In the morning we went down the worlds steepest railway which humorously played the Indiana Jones theme as we descended into the valley below. After walking though the rain forest, where we saw Liar birds, we took 2 cable cars up and across the valley admiring the beautiful scenery of the area. One cable car had an electric frosted glass floor which cleared as we hung over a 230m drop so you felt like you where walking on air.
The weather has been hot with a few windy days blowing in lots of jellyfish, at one point piles of them were heaped up on Manly beach and Becky joined Holland by getting stung (well if she will paddle in a beach heaped with Jellyfish). We have also been snorkeling on Shelley beach several times and seen giant Blue Gropers (1.25M long bright blue fish) and large squids feeding in the water. Shelly beach is an idyllic sheltered cove, just 10 minutes walk from our flat, so close Holland can (and often does) go snorkeling in his lunch break.
The night life in Sydney is also something we will miss, not a week goes by without being invited to some event or another. Everyone is so friendly, making us feel welcome wherever we go. We went to see the Scissor Sisters play on Tuesday night, which exceeded expectations and was a high energy, fabulous filthy gorgeous gig and left us buzzing. We also went to a free party on Sydney's south side with some Sydney locals that we had recently met. This was a wild night and a real eye opener when over 400 people ended up being chucked out by the police at 4 in the morning after dancing all night to live bands and huge sound systems.
This weekend we went to Good Vibrations festival and saw Snoop Dogg and Jurrasic 5 among others in the baking sun - awesome. A proper summer festival, Aussie style!
