The first few days in Costa Rica

We arrived safely and very tired after 36 hours travelling and not much sleep to San Jose (captial city of Costa Rica). We slept a few hours at the hostel then were off again on a local bus for the 5 hours drive to la fortuna. We finally arrived on Saturday afternoon to Hotel Bosco which is lovely. It has spas and a swimming pool and is over shadowed by an active volcano! It is lovely here, really tropical, yesterday we walked to a local waterfall which was massive (photos on flickr) and swam in the river below the fall. We saw humming birds and a toucan and lots of birds of prey menacingly circling the city. This afternoon we are going to trek up the volcano and finish the day in a thermal spring with a swim-up bar from which you can see the lava flowing down the volcano (hopefully not too close!). Everything so far has gone well we feel very safe and have been able to get by on our spanish (and the language of pointing and miming!). Tomorrow we are going to get a Jeep then boat and another jeep to a cloud forest then after that we are going to the coast.
